Journalist Harry Bergmann talks to author Helene Maimann about her exciting childhood and her latest book.

Her parents wanted a different world after the Second World War: All of her parents had already lived an extreme life: as fighters in the International Brigades in Spain, in the Resistance and in the armies of the Allies, as survivors in a concentration camp or in Siberia. Others were on Schindler's list. They were Jewish or Communist or both. After World War II, the world would be a different place, that was certain for them when they started over in Vienna.

Their children went from the margins of society to its center. Today, many of them belong to the cultural and political avant-garde. The historian Helene Maimann is one of them. She tells of their imprint, but also of the confrontations with the world of their parents, she tells of hopes and of failure, and of friends Elizabeth T. Spira, Robert Schindel, André Glucksmann and others.
