Cantors concert: Meafela Leora - From Darkness to Light

With Senior Cantor Shmuel Barzilai, Conductor Elli Jaffe and the Choir of the Great Synagogue from Jerusalem.

The art of Chasanut, the cantorial chant, will be the focus of a unique concert evening on November 2 at the Vienna Konzerthaus. The cantorial concert will be under the theme "Meafela Leora - from darkness to light" on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Shmuel Barzilai, the head cantor of the Jewish Community of Vienna, will be accompanied by the choir of the Great Synagogue of Jerusalem with conductor Elli Jaffe.

The beginning of this unique concert, is dedicated on a musical level, to the common commemoration. Afterwards, the life and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the state will be celebrated.

Shmuel Barzilai sees himself as a cultural ambassador of Judaism, "it is important to me to show the beautiful culture of the Jews." (Interview 2010, Die Presse). A project that will be musically realized in November in the Great Hall in November: The audience will be offered traditional prayers tand their timeless melodies, as well as old Jewish songs and religious tunes from the from the Stetl. The dramaturgy of the evening is reflected in the choice of music and its staging - from darkness to light.
